The North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs won the region championship for the 5th time in 5 years. Overall the Lady Chiefs won 5 of the 6 fields events and all three relays to finish in first place. The ladies had a strong overall performance scoring points in every event. Emily Barbosa and Allyiah Hemingway lead the way for the chiefs both competing in 3 individual events as well as a relay. Barbosa place 1st in pole vault, 2nd in the 1600, 3rd in the 800 and helped lead the 4×400 to a first place finish. Hemingway placed 1st in long jump, 2nd in the 100, 3rd in the 200 and also helped lead her 4×100 relay to victory. The throwers for North Myrtle Beach had a great night scoring a total of 34 points between shot put and discus. Led by Shania Parker, who placed first in both events, the girls took 7 of the 10 scoring positions. Jermisha Moss placed 2nd overall in both events followed by strong performances from Tamisha Scott, Shakelya Wideman and Wenisha Clemons. Malaaysia Williams set a personal record in both the triple jump, where she finished first with a jump of 35ft 2 inches, and the 400 hurdles, where she finished 2nd with a time of 1:14.03. Jenna Downey started off strong chasing down the Wilson team as the anchor leg in the 4×800 to finish first overall. Downey also placed first in the 800 and anchored the 4×400 to victory. The Lady Chiefs move on the State Qualifiers on May 5th where they have girls competing in 16 of the 17 events.
