Chiefs News · Chiefs Bounce Back With 41-7 Thrashing Of Darlington

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs (5-1) bounced back in a huge way, defeating Darlington 41-7 in the 2018 Homecoming Game. It was the 15th consecutive win at the Hank Hester Sports Complex. The Chiefs scored all 41 of their points in the first half before turning the game over to the bench. Cason McClendon threw three touchdown to lead the way.

All the momentum went toward the home team from the first possession when senior Nick Vereen got a huge burst through the line and sprinted 55 yards all the way down to the 10. Darlington would bend but not break on the Chiefs first two red zone trips as they had to settle for Zane Smith field goals of 26, and 22 yards. Unfortunately for the Falcons, it was only a matter of time before the Chiefs offense executed easily.

A big sack from Garrett Perlstein drove Darlington all the way back to the 8 yard line, forcing a punt out of their own end zone. The kick was a non factor, hanging in the air like a duck, falling out of bounds at the 31. It didn’t even take two minutes for the Chiefs to take advantage of the field position. McClendon threw a strike with great velocity, hitting Derrien Holmes in stride for the 20 yard score putting North Myrtle Beach up 13-0.

From there it was off to the races as the Chiefs ran the ball at will, and McClendon was taking command through the air. His other two touchdown passes would go 19 yards to Davion Gore, and 27 yards to Zyer Belle. Zyon Belle would rip off a 26 yard touchdown, beating one defender around the right side and rolling untouched across the goal line. Nick Vereen who got off to a great start in the first quarter, tallied the last Chiefs touchdown for 8 yards.

Javorious Williams put Darlington on the board late scoring a 29 yard touchdown against the Chiefs second team. The Falcons were overmatched in every phase of the game. It was exactly the performance you would expect out of North Myrtle Beach coming off a tough loss to Wilson. The Chiefs were aggressive and took the heart right out of their opponent.

Now comes the time for the biggest test of the season in regional play. Next week, No 1 ranked Hartsville will come to town. The Foxes trailed Wilson by two scores on Friday night before making a fourth quarter comeback and escaping with a 14-13 victory. Hartsville should be fired up coming into Little River, but the Chiefs high powered offense will present a real challenge. Expect a capacity crowd that is ready to watch some great football this week!
